Williamsburg, KY – UC Volleyball (17-0, 1-0) (RV) completed their tenth sweep of the season, dominating 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) over Georgetown (1-5, 0-1). During the Pats' first Mid-South Conference match of the season, they tallied 37 kills, 43 digs, nine service aces to remain undefeated at 17-0.
Outside hitter,
Sara Zampedri, led the team with 11 kills, followed by
Allyson Grava's eight.
Kendall Arnold marked team-highs of 17 assists and three service aces, while
Juliet Banks notched 10 digs on defense.
Cumberlands opened the match with a 25-19 win. Grava put the Patriots on the board with a kill and UC capitalized on a Tiger attacking error but trailed 3-2. A four-point run courtesy of kills by Zampedri and
Faith Franklin, along with an ace served by
Aleksandra Augustyniak, shifted the Patriots into a 7-5 lead. Franklin tallied back-to-back kills and
Davey Slaughter aced Georgetown to extend the lead to 10-6. The Pats gained momentum for a 19-11 lead as Zampedri notched a pair of kills and the Tigers made two errors. Zampedri and Franklin closed the set at 25-19 with the final two kills.
In the second set, UC faced a 8-4 until consecutive kills from Franklin and
Kara Gipson closed the gap to 8-6. The Pats evened the score at 10-10 with four points in a row, two Grava kills, a service ace by Arnold, and a Tiger attacking error. A six-point run, consisting of a pair of kills by Augustyniak, two attacking errors on Georgetown, and a kill from Zampedri, shifted UC into a 17-12 advantage. Grava collected two more kills, in addition to kills from Zampedri and Gipson, to end the set at 25-20.
The Patriots started the final set down, 2-0, but kills from Franklin and Grava tied the score at 2-2. To pull ahead, 6-4, Grava notched a kill and was followed by Arnold with a service ace. The Tigers shifted into a 9-7 lead until a pair of Zampedri kills and one kill from Franklin leveled the set at 10-10. After the teams exchanged points, three consecutive Georgetown errors and a kill from Zampedri gave Cumberlands a 22-20 advantage. Grava recorded the final point with a kill, completing the sweep with a third-set score of 25-21.
UC Volleyball will travel to the IU Kokomo Quad Tournament and face Saint Xavier and IU East on Friday September 13
th at 4 and 6 p.m., in Kokomo, IN.
