#12 UC Remains Undefeated Behind Fernadez Garcia Brace Against Shawnee State

Williamsburg, KY – Early offensive efforts saw the No. 12 Patriots shutout the Shawnee State Bears inside the UC Soccer Complex. With ten minutes to play in the first half, Mario Fernandez Garcia netted his first goal of the season followed by his second goal of the season with less than two minutes in the first half.

Collectively, UC tallied 19 shots with ten being on frame. Fernandez led the way with two goals, with four shots and three being on frame. Salvador Martinez followed with fives and two on goal while Rodrigo Riveros had three shots and two on goal.

The Pats recorded the first shot on frame in the first 14 minutes of play off the boot of Martinez. It was followed by two corner kicks from Emil Skursch and Shuma Sasaki and another pair of shots from Martinez and Fernandez Garcia.

In the 22', the Pats saw two more shots with one of them being a shot on frame from Skursch. UC continued to attack on offense in the 31st minute with a corner kick from Skursch followed by a shot on frame from Riveros.

After being on the offensive half of the field for a majority of the first half, Fernandez Garcia netted UC's first goal of the game off a pass across the box from Fabio Galeano Bazan to take a 1-0 advantage. Wasting no time, Fernandez Garcia recorded the brace on a header assisted by Sasaki for a 2-0 advantage going into the second half.

In the second half of play, the Patriots recorded nine shots but were unable to add to their lead. Strong defensive efforts behind goalie Zachary Dean led him to record two saves and hold the Bears scoreless for a 2-0 victory.

Cumberlands will remain inside the UC Soccer Complex in three days' time on Saturday, September 21, to host (RV) Rio Grande University (OH). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. (EST) in Williamsburg, KY.
