Patriots Utilize Balance Attack in 4-0 Win over Jamestown

Williamsburg, KY – The top-ranked Patriots had eight different players record a point as UC defeated Jamestown 4-0, Monday night at the UC Soccer Complex.  With the win, Cumberlands improves to 8-0 on the year, while the Jimmies move to 3-5 overall.

Carola Fontan and Jayden Boelter each notched a goal and an assist in the game, while Rita Aguye dished out two assists.   Olaya Blanco netted her first goal of the season as Abigail Little has now tallied three goals over the past two matches.  Laura Bosca and Nicole Araujo each notched an assist in the win.  Georgia Martell made three saves to earn UC's fifth shutout of the season.

Jamestown looked to take the early lead however, Martell cut off a run by Gaby Sarkis in the 7' to keep the game scoreless.  Cumberlands controlled the possession for majority of the first half, however, the Jimmies defense kept UC's attack on their heels turning away chance after chance.  The Patriots took five shots in the first 30 minutes of action but the game remained scoreless.  UC final broke through in the 35' as Rita Augye played a high cross into the box, where Fontan jumped and headed the ball just inside the post to make it 1-0.  Blanco looked to extend the lead late in the half but it deflected off the post keeping the score 1-0.

The Patriots continued to control the possession in the second half putting two shots on frame in the first ten minutes both of which were saved.  It looked like UC extend their lead in the 57' but an offside call nullified the goal.  A minute later, Fontan sent the ball up the right flank, where Bosca used one touch to cross it into the box for Boelter to finish.  It marks Boelter's 15th goal of the season, which leads the NAIA.  UC extend their lead in the 66' as Paalman beat two defenders and crossed it into the box.  The ball deflected off Boelter before Blanco slid into the shot for her first goal of the season.  UC continued to control the possession and in the 83' Aguye sent the ball forward to Araujo, who used one touch pushing it up field. Little made a run took one dribble before burying the shot into the net giving the Patriots the 4-0 lead.  Martell added her third save in the 86' to preserve the shutout.

Cumberlands returns to the pitch Saturday, September 28, when they travel to Henderson, TN for their MSC opener against Freed-Hardeman.  The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. with live video available here.
