Campbellsville, KY – The seventh-ranked Patriots women's basketball team came out strong shooting 62.8% from the field in the first half, however, fell to third ranked Campbellsville 94-90 Thursday night at the Powell Athletic Center.
Kassie Monday led the way for Cumberlands with 20 points and a season-high 11 assists for her third double-double of the year.
Kaylie Monday added 10 points and a career-high 10 assists, while
LeeAnna McNulty tallied 13 points and a team-high five rebounds.
Jaiden Cox chipped in 12 points, while
Lakin Burke and
Zaram Fredricks combined for 19 points and seven rebounds.
The Patriots (14-3; 0-1) opened the game with four straight points after buckets from
Anaia Hoard and
Zaram Fredricks. The Tigers went on a 12-2 run before
Kassie Monday connected with
Jaiden Cox for a three-pointer on the wing cutting the deficit to 12-9 with 4:16 remaining. After the teams traded baskets, Monday found
Kaylie Monday behind-the-arc for three to tie the score at 14-14. The score was tied twice more before
Kassie Monday hit a jumper and Hoard converted a three-point play to give the Patriots a 26-22 advantage after the first period.
Just over a minute into the second quarter,
Kaylie Monday found
Lakin Burke for a layup before
Joy Kendrick added a putback to make it 31-24. A few minutes later, UC went on an 8-2 run with six points from
Kaylie Monday to extend the lead to 41-30 midway through the quarter. Monday dished out back-to-back assists including one to
Kassie Monday for three to give Cumberlands a 46-34 lead.
Jaiden Cox drained a three pointer and added a steal and assists as the Patriots took a 53-44 lead into the break.
Campbellsville opened the third quarter on a 6-1 run before Cox drove and dished to
LeeAnna McNulty to make it 56-49 with 6:15 remaining.
Zaram Fredricks sank three from the charity stripe to make it a 61-54 Cumberlands advantage with 3:19 remaining. The Tigers scored six unanswered points before UC scored three straight as
Kaylie Monday dished out her ninth assist of the game connecting Cox for jumper to make it 64-60.
Kassie Monday added a free throw as UC took a 65-62 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers pulled within a point before
Kassie Monday hit a jumper to take a 67-64 lead two minutes into the fourth quarter. A minute later, Monday found Burke cutting for a layup to give them a 69-68 lead with 6:38 remaining. Campbellsville retook the lead before
Kaylie Monday notched a steal and found
Kassie Monday in transition to put UC back in front. After the teams traded free throws, McNulty grabbed an offensive board and putback to make it 76-74 with 3:10 remaining. The Tigers converted from the charity stripe to take an 82-78 lead, however,
Kassie Monday connected with McNulty from back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 82-82 with 15.3 seconds remaining. Cumberlands defense stepped up with a big stop forcing overtime.

Jaiden Cox for a layup to take the 84-82 lead. The Tigers went on an 8-1 run with six of the points coming from the charity stripe. The Patriots battled back as
Amy Thompson found McNulty for a jumper to pull UC within two at 90-88. That was the closest Cumberlands came as Campbellsville netted four of the final six points for the 94-90 final.
Cumberlands returns to the court Thursday, January 16, when they return home to face (RV) Freed-Hardeman. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
