#10 Patriots Earn 17th Straight Sweep, Stay Perfect in MSC Play

Williamsburg, KY – No. 10 UC continued its undefeated season in dominant fashion once again Thursday night, sweeping Campbellsville 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-16) inside the UC Volleyball Gym. The victory marks the Patriots 17th consecutive sweep as they improve to 22-0 overall and 8-0 in Mid-South Conference play.

Cumberlands hit .225 as a team and controlled the match from start to finish while limiting the Tigers to just .040 hitting. Brynnley Bryant led the Patriots with 12 kills and 13 digs for her third double-double of the season. Sara Zampedri added nine kills and two aces, while Alana Shiery was efficient with seven kills on a .400 hitting percentage and a match-high eight total blocks. Setter Savanah Jolly dished out 34 assists to go along with eight digs and a pair of blocks.

The Patriots' front line dominated defensively, totaling 14 team blocks. Kara Gipson added six kills and a block, and Davey Slaughter anchored the back row with 11 digs, while Autiana Wilson chipped in seven.

UC wasted little time taking control in the opening set, jumping ahead 10-4 behind kills from Bryant and Shiery. Campbellsville briefly cut it to 14-10, but back-to-back points from Zampedri and a strong serving stretch from Slaughter pushed UC to a 20-12 lead before a Bryant kill secured the 25-15 win.

The second set was the tightest of the night with seven ties and four lead changes early on. With the score knotted at 14, Jolly set up Shiery and Gipson for consecutive kills that gave the Patriots the cushion they needed. UC closed the frame on an 11-5 run, capped by a Zampedri kill, to win 25-19.

In the third, Cumberlands continued to dictate the pace, breaking open a 12-10 lead behind a 5-0 service run from Jolly. Fischer, Bryant, and Gipson all tallied key points down the stretch as UC hit .333 in the set and finished the match on a 6-2 spurt to complete the sweep 25-16.

The win extends the Patriots program-record sweep streak to 17 matches and keeps their perfect season intact at 22-0. Cumberlands will look to continue its momentum when it returns to action this Saturday October 18th for a doubleheader against (RV) Aquinas and the University of Northwestern Ohio.
