Williamsburg, KY – #10 Cumberlands kept its perfect season rolling Tuesday night with a dominant 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-18) victory over Georgetown College inside the UC Volleyball Gym. The Patriots controlled the match from start to finish to move to 25-0 overall and 9-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
Cumberlands put together one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season, hitting .357 as a team with 35 kills against just five errors while holding Georgetown to .057.
Sara Zampedri paced the Patriots with nine kills, five aces, and six digs for a match-high 14.5 points.
Elaina Fischer added eight kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while
Kara Gipson was nearly flawless with seven kills on a .667 clip.
Making her first collegiate start,
Kaytlynn Collier guided the offense with 18 assists, 12 digs, and two aces to help UC control the tempo throughout the match. Fellow setter
Lauren Leurck also saw action, contributing 11 assists and two blocks in a strong showing for the Patriots offense.
Brynnley Bryant added four kills and six digs, while
Alana Shiery notched four kills and a team-high six blocks.
Davey Slaughter anchored the defense with eight digs and a pair of aces, as UC tallied 12 aces and 14 total blocks as a team.
The Patriots came out firing in the first set, hitting .571 while limiting Georgetown to just six kills. Fischer and Gipson combined for six early points as UC built a 13-5 lead before closing on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-11.
Cumberlands carried that momentum into the second frame, jumping ahead 10-3 behind Zampedri's serving and Collier's precise setting. Shiery and Fischer each tallied multiple kills as the Patriots pulled away for a 25-12 win.
The third set saw Georgetown push early, forcing four lead changes, but UC's depth proved too much. Zampedri sparked a 7-1 run with back-to-back aces, and Bryant added a key kill down the stretch to help the Patriots close out the match 25-18.
Cumberlands will look to continue its perfect season as it returns to non-conference play this weekend against Grace Christian and Boyce College in Louisville, KY. First match is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
