Kendrick Notched Double-Double as Patriots Earn Win over Foresters

Williamsburg, KY – The #25 UC women's basketball team utilized a pair of runs to pull away and defeat (RV) Huntington 79-58 Thursday night on Randy Vernon Court.  With the win, the Patriots improves to 2-0 on the year, while the Foresters move to 2-1.

Joy Kendrick led the way for UC tying her career-high with 23 points along with 11 rebounds.  Zaram Fredricks netted a career-high 16 points along with eight rebounds, while Darcie Anderson chipped in 10 points. 

Patriots win the opening tip and on the first possession, Joy Kendrick hit a pull-up jumper putting UC ahead 2-0.  Darcie Anderson added a hard take to bucket before Kendrick added a layup extending the Patriots lead to 6-3 with 7:41 remaining.  A few minutes later, a steal by UC led to an Amy Thompson floater making it a 10-5 lead midway through the first quarter.  Huntington hit a pair of three's to take a one point lead, however, the Patriots responded with a 7-0 run, including four points from Kendrick to make it 19-13 with three minutes remaining.  UC continued their strong play as they took a 20-17 advantage after the opening period.

Fredricks opens the second quarter with four points and a block as Cumberlands extended their lead to 24-17.  The two teams traded possession until Anderson and Fredricks sank back-to-back jumpers at the 5:30 mark to make it a 28-17 advantage.  The Patriots utilized a 14-0 run, capped off by an Anderson jumper, that spanned nearly eight minutes as UC took a 34-17 lead.  Huntington responded with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 36-24 at the break.

Cumberlands opened the second half strong with a reverse layup by Noel Smith and a left-hand layup from Carrico makes it a 40-26 lead with 8:02 remaining.  The Foresters cut the lead to 42-32 before Kenrick hit a five-foot jumped to push UC's lead back to 45-32 midway through the quarter.  Amy Thompson notched a layup and a steal, which sparked a seven-point Patriots run extending the lead to 52-37. 

Both teams came out strong in the fourth quarter as Kendrick notched four points, including a putback to tie her career-high and giving UC a 62-49 lead with 6:10 remaining.  Anderson added back-to-back transition layups, before Thompson sank a jumper to make it a 68-50 advantage with 3:40 remaining.  In the closing minutes of the game, Clark added a pair of three-points, while Mackenzie Babb converted a three-point play for the 79-58 final.
 
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, October 31, when they Patriots take on (RV) Milligan as part of the Patriots Classic.  Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.
