Kansas City, MO – An incredible postseason runs leads the Cumberlands women's soccer team closing out the 2025 season ranked second in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, announced by the national office Wednesday. The Patriots earned 401 points to be ranked in the top 10 throughout the entire season.
UC finished the year with a 17-5-3 record and reached the NAIA Championship match for the second time in program history. The Patriots played 18 matches coming against teams that were ranked or receiving votes in the national poll. UC's run to the championship match included a double-overtime win over #4 College of Idaho, and a 1-0 win over both #5 John Brown and #8 Oklahoma Wesleyan. Cumberlands limited their opponents to 0.76 goals against average with 14 clean sheets on the year. The Patriots defense led by NAIA Third Team All-American
Samantha Sokolove along with
Madison Long,
Noah Paalman, and
Karla Waibel has limited opponents to 9.4 shots per game.
Morgan White has made 111 saves and posted an 85.4% save percentage, which ranks second in program history.
Offensively, the Patriots averaged 2.60 goals per game with eight different players tallying double-digit points. NAIA Third Team All-American
Nicole Araujo led the way with 11 goals and 31 points on the year. After an incredible postseason that including scoring a pair of game-winning goals,
Carola Fontan closes out her Patriot career with seven goals and 10 assists.
Abigail Little as added seven goals and seven assists.
Sara Soto tallied three goals in during the Patriots postseason run.
NAIA National Champions Keiser earned all 15 first-place votes to be atop the poll. Embry-Riddle and Oklahoma Wesleyan finished tied for third, while Marian rounds out the top-five. MSC rivals Lindsey Wilson is 15th, while Cumberland is 19th.
Cumberlands won at least 15 games in a season for their eighth consecutive year, while qualifying for their seventh straight NAIA National Tournament. The Patriots reached the NAIA Final Site for the sixth consecutive year.
