Williamsburg, KY – The #18 UC Men's Tennis team hosted #20 Union College for their home opener at the UC Tennis Complex Wednesday afternoon. Cumberlands earned a 6-1 victory for their first win of the season and swept the singles matches.  

Union got on the board first with the doubles point, sweeping all three matches.  

The Patriots responded in a big way in singles. Luis Marcos was able to solidify the first victory in singles for the Pats. Marcos won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in #4 singles over Yassine Azehaf. 

Juan Alcon defeated Luke Geduldt in straight sets 7-6, 6-2 at #2 singles to put the Pats up 2-0.  

Cumberlands increased the lead to 3-0, as Lucas Augotr defeated Daniel Caballeros 7-5, 6-4 in straight sets.  

Liam Savio clinched the win for the Patriots in #1 singles. The graduate student defeated Artsiom Sinitsyn in three sets. After dropping the first set 7-6, Savio bounced back with identical 6-4 victories to win the point for UC. 

With the win secured, the Pats continued to battle, earning a pair of three-set victories.  

Gabriele Solda dropped the first set in his match against Victor Bourguignon in #3 singles. He then took the next two sets to claim the victory. Pierluigi Cruypenninck continued his hot stretch as he emerged victorious over his opponent to finish the match.  

Cumberlands will be back in action Friday, February 28th to take on Indiana Wesleyan. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET from the UC Tennis Complex.
