Williamsburg, KY – The 21st ranked UC Women's Tennis team defeated #24 Indiana Wesleyan 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex.
Cumberlands grabbed the early 1-0 lead, capturing two of the three doubles matches.
Mahiro Hara and Liu YuFang opened the match up with a win over France Antezana and Meribel Jarna 6-4 at #1 doubles. Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma also earned a victory at #3 doubles, taking down Alli Schellenberg and Maria Oliveira 6-2. The doubles match at the #2 spot was left unfinished.
After the Wildcats took the first singles match to tie things up at 1-1, UC responded in the #2 spot. Nagai continued her successful day with a dominate 6-1, 6-2 victory over Katie Parr to give UC the lead 2-1.
Victoria Zarate earned the next singles victory to increase the Cumberlands lead to 3-1. The freshman earned a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 win against Meribel Jarna in what was a back-and-forth contest at #3 singles.
The Pats kept the momentum rolling in #4 singles as Liu YuFang took her match over Maria Oliveira in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to secure the 4-1 overall win for UC.
Bryndis Rosa collected the final win of the day at #6 singles. Rosa defeated Alli Schellenberg in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
UC will be back in action next Wednesday, March 5th against Huntington at the UC Tennis Complex.
