Late Run Lifts #10 Patriots Over the #7 Tigers as Monday Breaks Career Assist Record

Georgetown, KY – The tenth-ranked Cumberlands women's basketball team outscored seventh-ranked Georgetown 23-13 in the fourth quarter to earned the 78-68 road win over the Tigers, Thursday night at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.  The win is UC's seventh- straight win and improves to 21-3 overall and 7-1 in MSC play.

Kassie Monday tallied seven points, seven assists and four rebounds in the win.  Monday now 740 career assists making her the program's career leader breaking the record of 734 that was set in 1994.  Kaylie Monday netted 20 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds and two steals, while Anaia Hoard and LeeAnna McNulty finished with 13 points and combined for 15 rebounds.  Lakin Burke chipped in eight points and five rebounds as Zaram Fredricks added three blocks.

The Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Kaylie Monday found Jaiden Cox for a layup.  Zaram Fredricks notched a pair of blocks before Monday drained a three pointer to take a 5-0 lead.  Georgetown went on 11-0 run that spanned four minutes before Monday found Anaia Hoard on the wing for a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to 11-8 with 3:30 remaining.  Cumberlands closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run that was capped off with a Kassie Monday three pointer to even the score at 16-16.

After the two teams trade baskets to open the second quarter, Kassie Monday connected with Kaylie Monday for a three-pointer putting UC in front 21-20 with 6:50 left. Kaylie Monday drained another three-pointer to go along with a Kylie Fultz putback extended Cumberlands lead to 26-22 midway through the quarter.  Jaiden Cox connected with McNulty before laying one it to extend the lead to 30-23.  That layup was Kassie Monday's 735 career assists, which moves her into the program's all-time leader.  Kassie followed up with a stellar pass to Fultz for a layup as the Patriots took a 32-31 lead at the break.

Leeanna McNulty netted five straight points for the Patriots as UC took a 39-38 lead with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter.  Kaylie Monday added a steal and layup while back-to-back layups from Hoard and Joy Kedrick evened the score at 45-45 with 5:45 remaining.  The game was tied five more times as Kassie Monday added a last second layup to even the score at 55-55 heading into the fourth quarter.

The scored was tied at 57-57, before four straight points from Lakin Burke put the Patriots up 61-57.  The Tigers pulled within two points, however, Kassie Monday connected with Joy Kendrick for a critical three-pointer making it 68-63 with 3:12 remaining.  The two teams trade baskets as UC sank four free throws and closed out the game with a Kaylie Monday layup for the 78-68 final.

This is the Patriots first win at Georgetown since January 13, 2018. UC outrebounded Georgetown 37-31 on the boards.

The Patriots return to the court Thursday, February 13th, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face Lindsey Wilson.  Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.with live video available here.
