Williamsburg, KY – #18 UC Men's Tennis defeated (RV) Pikeville 6-1 at the UC Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon. Cumberlands picked up their fourth win of the season and remain unbeaten at home.
UC grabbed the early 1-0 lead with the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Gabriele Solda and Liam Savio picked up the first victory with a 6-2 win over Giuliano Zambrano and Mateo Vargas at #1 doubles. Juanchi Alcon partnered with Manuel Fernandez Guede at the #2 spot, defeating Haithem Rabbouche and Ahmed Hassairi, 6-2. In #3 doubles, Sampras Rakotondrainibe and Darius Kuster secured the sweep with a 6-3 win against Timur Chsherbakov and Anton Hofmann.
Liam Savio picked up his second win of the day in #1 singles. Savio defeated Timur Chsherbakov in a hard-fought three-set victory, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, extending the UC lead to 2-0.
In #2 singles, Juanchi Alcon put together identical scores of 6-2 to earn a straight-set win over Mateo Vargas, making the score 3-0.
Pikeville scored their only point of the match in #3 singles to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Gabriele Solda was dominant in his match against Giuliano Zambrano. He notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory to clinch the overall team win.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck and Darius Kuster also emerged victorious in their matches to get the 6-1 win. Cruypenninck defeated Ahmed Hassairi 6-0, 6-2, while Kuster earned a win due to retirement by Anton Hofmann.
Cumberlands will return to the UC Tennis Complex tomorrow as they host Oakland City at 1 p.m. ET.
