Williamsburg, KY – #18 UC Men's Tennis emerged victorious in another ranked matchup on Tuesday afternoon. Cumberlands defeated #20 Oakland City 4-3 at the UC Tennis Complex to collect their fifth win of the season.
Oakland City grabbed the early 1-0 advantage, taking two of three doubles matches to secure the point. Darius Kuster and Sampras Rakotondrainibe won their matchup at #3 doubles over Willem Cilliers and Agustin Siufi, 6-0.
The Mighty Oaks opened singles play with a win at the #1 spot to extend their lead to 2-0.
Juanchi Alcon put the Pats on the board with a victory at #2 singles. Alcon defeated Agustin Siufi 6-4, 6-4 at #2 doubles to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Luis Marcos evened the score at 2-2 with a win at #3 singles. The sophomore took down Nelson Ramos 6-4, 6-3.
Oakland City regained the lead at 3-2 with a win in #4 singles.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck provided the response this time for the Pats with a win at #5 singles. Cruypenninck defeated Samarbir Sidhu 6-1, 6-3 to tie the match at 3-3.
It would all come down to UC's Darius Kuster and OCU's Aleksander Ivancevic at #6 singles. Kuster came through for the Pats in straight sets, earning a 6-4, 6-4 victory to secure the overall 4-3 win for Cumberlands.
The Pats are back in action again tomorrow, hosting St. Thomas (Fla.) at the UC Tennis Complex.
