Williamsburg, KY – The 16th ranked Cumberlands Men's Tennis team earned their fourth consecutive win on Wednesday, defeating St. Thomas 6-1 at the UC Tennis Complex. UC now sits at 6-6 overall this season and have won six of their last seven matches.
St. Thomas grabbed the early 1-0 lead with the doubles point after taking two of three matches. Sampras Rakotondrainibe and Darius Kuster earned the only victory in doubles, defeating Leon Emich and Arthur Bugeaud 6-4 at #2 doubles.
UC was dominant in singles play, leading off with Liam Savio. Savio collected a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set win over Fabrizio Moreno at #1 singles to even the score at 1-1.
Juanchi Alcon was also impressive, defeating William Rosencratz in #2 singles 6-0, 6-3 to give the Pats a 2-1 advantage.
In #3 singles, Luis Marcos added another win to make the score 3-1. Marcos took down Arthur Bugeaud 7-6, 6-4 to keep the momentum rolling in favor of Cumberlands.
Gabriele Solda secured the overall team win for the Pats with a victory in #4 singles over Leon Emich, 6-1, 6-4.
Cumberlands added two more victories in the #5 and #6 spots to get the 6-1 win. Pierluigi Cruypenninck emerged victorious over Giacomo Nava, 6-3, 6-1, while Sampras Rakotondrainibe earned his second point of the day with a win against Jan Gewaltig.
UC will return to the courts Friday March 14th to take on (RV) Marian at the UC Tennis Complex. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
