Williamsburg, KY – The Cumberlands Men's Tennis team defeated (RV) Marian University 6-1 on Friday at the UC Tennis Complex. UC improves to 7-6 on the season and extend their match winning streak to five.
The Pats grabbed the early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point, taking the first two doubles matches.
Liam Savio and Juanchi Alcon earned the first win of the day at #1 doubles, defeating Jones McNamar and James Ashworth, 6-3. Darius Kuster partnered with Gabriele Solda and took down Juan Garcia-Tunon and Marcos Ramos Cabrera 6-2 at #2 doubles.
After Marian got a win at #1 singles to even the score up at 1-1, Alcon continued his winning his ways, solidifying the first victory in singles for the Pats. The graduate student defeated Bogdan Precupescu in straight sets 6-0, 7-5 at #2 singles to put the Pats up 2-1.
Cumberlands increased the lead to 3-1, as Luis Marcos picked up a win over James Ashworth 6-4, 6-4 at #3 singles.
Gabriele Solda earned the fourth point of the day for UC to secure the overall victory. Alcon defeated Juan Garcia-Tunon 6-2, 6-2 at #4 singles.
With the win secured, the Pats continued to battle, earning a pair of straight-set victories.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck opened play at #5 singles with a solid 6-4 win in the first set. The sophomore earned a 6-3 victory in set two to make the score 5-1.
Darius Kuster earned the final win of the day, emerging victorious at #6 singles. The sophomore defeated Marcos Ramos Cabrera 6-0, 7-6 to cement the 6-1 victory for the Patriots.
UC will travel to Danville, KY tomorrow to take on Centre College.
