Williamsburg, KY – The UC Women's Tennis team fell in a narrow 4-3 defeat to #16 Marian University at the UC Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Patriots earned the point for doubles, picking up wins at #1 and #2 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Victoria Zarate and Karen Kondo earned the first doubles win for UC, capturing a 7-6 victory at #1 doubles. Mahiro Hara partnered with Liu YuFang to defeat Ana Lopez Torres and Michelle Irigoyen 7-5 at #2 doubles.
Marian started strong in singles with back-to-back wins in #1 and #2 singles to take the lead at 2-1.
In #3 singles, Marina Nagai evened the match at 2-2 with a straight-set win over Michelle Irigoyen 6-4, 6-3.
The Knights would secure the overall team win with wins at the #4 and #5 spots.
Liu YuFang earned the final win of the day for UC. After dropping the first set 1-6 against Paloma Caceres Villalba, she won the next two 6-3, 6-1 to finish the match at a 4-3 score.
UC will travel to Danville, KY tomorrow to take on Centre College.
