Danville, KY - The #19 Cumberlands Women's Tennis team blanked the Centre Colonels 7-0 on Saturday in Danville, KY. UC improves to 8-4 overall on the season.
The Patriots secured two of the three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 advantage.Â
Karen Kondo and Victoria Zarate defeated Natalie Black and Kennedy Herring 6-3 at #1 doubles, while Rion Yanuma and Marina Nagai earned a win over Sophie Maddux and Sara Dunn 6-0 at the #3 spot.Â
Kondo continued her successful day with a dominant win in singles play. The senior did not lose a game, defeating Grace Williams 6-2, 6-1 at the #1 spot to put UC up 2-0.Â
Nagai also picked up a singles win in straight sets for her second point of the day, defeating Carlie Mitchell 6-0, 6-3 at the #2 spot, giving the Pats a 3-0 advantage.Â
Zarate picked up her second point of the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kennedy Herring at #3 singles, clinching the overall team win for the Pats.
The Pats secured the final three matches to cement the 7-0 win, collecting three straight-set victories.
Liu YuFang defeated Natalie Black 6-4, 6-3 at #4 singles, while Rion Yanuma earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Carrie Foster at the #5 spot.
Bryndis Rosa earned the final win of the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the #6 spot.
UC is back in action on Tuesday, hosting (RV) McPherson College at the UC Tennis Complex.
