Williamsburg, KY - The #19 Cumberlands Men's Tennis team defeated McPherson 6-1 on Tuesday at the UC Tennis Complex.
The Patriots started strong, taking two of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Liu YuFang and Mahiro Hara earned the first win, with a 6-4 victory over Taimi Nashiku and Laureen Van Drunen at #2 doubles. Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma followed that up by defeating Bella Ellerbee and Pia Hinricher 6-0 at #3 doubles.Â
Karen Kondo earned the first singles victory of the day for UC at #1 singles. The senior defeated Alexandria Garcia 6-4, 6-1 to put UC up 2-0.Â
Marina Nagai would earn her second point of the day at #2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vanessa Hofer at the #2 spot, extending the UC lead to 3-0.
Liu YuFang secured the overall team win with a hard-fought three-set victory over Taimi Nashiku at #3 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
With the game already won, the Pats continued to battle, taking two of the final three matches.Â
The Pats garnered another dominant victory, as Victoria Zarate defeated Laureen Van Drunen 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles.Â
Mahiro Hara earned the final win of the day for the Pats at #5 singles, defeating Pia Hinricher 6-0, 6-3.
McPherson got on the board with a win in #6 singles to avoid the shutout.
Cumberlands will return to the UC Tennis Complex tomorrow as they host Freed-Hardeman for their Mid-South Conference opener.
