Williamsburg, KY – The 16th ranked UC Men's Tennis team extending their winning streak to eight with a 6-1 win over Freed-Hardeman in their Mid-South Conference opener.
Freed-Hardeman grabbed the early 1-0 lead, taking the first two doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
Liam Savio evened the match at 1-1 with a win at #1 singles. He defeated Merlin Bolema in straight-sets 6-4, 6-2.
Juanchi Alcon earned a victory over Maxime Guyon at the #2 spot, giving Cumberlands a 2-1 advantage. After dropping the first set 5-7, the senior responded with back-to-back 6-3 scores to win the match.
In #3 singles, Luis Marcos kept the momentum rolling for UC. Marcos collected a hard-fought win over Quentin Ferron in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, making the score 3-1.
Gabriele Solda clinched the overall team win for the Patriots, defeating Pablo Poleo 6-2, 6-0 at #4 singles.
After the match was won, UC picked up a pair of wins from Pierluigi Cruypenninck and Darius Kuster. Cruypenninck and Kuster both took their matches with scores of 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 and #6 spots to secure the 6-1 overall team score.
Cumberlands will be back in action on March 26th when they travel to Milligan College, TN to take on Milligan.
