Williamsburg, KY – After a postponement on Wednesday due to weather, #18 UC and #24 Huntington resumed play on Friday morning at the UC Tennis Complex. Cumberlands defeated the Foresters, 4-1, sweeping the singles matches to earn the top-25 win.
The Foresters got out to an early 1-0 lead, taking the first two doubles matches at the #1 and #2 spots to clinch the doubles point.
Juanchi Alcon got UC on the board first in singles play tie things up at 1-1. The senior earned a hard-fought three set victory over Andres Jimenez in #2 singles. After dropping the first set 6-2, Alcon won the next two 6-4, 6-2 to earn the point.
Liam Savio also collected a narrow three-set win to give the Pats a 2-1 advantage. Savio battled for a 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 win against Julian Tantera at the #1 spot.
Luis Marcos added another win in singles to give UC a 3-0 lead. The sophomore defeated Santiago Sarudiansky 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at #3 singles.
In #6 singles,
Darius Kuster secured the 4-1 overall team victory with a straight set win over Cristian Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-1. The rest of the match was left unfinished.
Cumberlands will return to the courts March 10th where they will host Pikeville.
