Lebanon, TN – The #15 UC Men's Tennis team improved to 4-0 in Mid-South Conference play with a 4-1 victory over #12 Cumberland University on Thursday.
The Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, taking two of three doubles matches to secure the point. Liam Savio and Juanchi Alcon earned the first win of the day, defeating Vitor Ferreira and Julian Parada 6-1 at #1 doubles. Darius Kuster partnered with Gabriele Solda, emerging victorious over Gabriel Godoy and Hassan Ammar 6-4 at the #2 spot.
Savio kept the momentum in favor of the Pats with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Vitor Ferreira at #1 singles, extending the lead to 2-0.
The Phoenix reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a win at #2 singles.
UC responded with a win from Solda at the #4 spot. The sophomore defeated Hassan Ammar 6-1, 6-2 to give the Pats a 3-1 advantage.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck secured the overall team victory for Cumberlands after winning his match over Gabriel Godoy 6-4, 6-2, while the rest of the match was left unfinished.
UC is back in action on Saturday April 12th for senior day against #6 Lindsey Wilson. The ceremony is set to begin at noon, with the match to follow at 1 p.m. ET from the UC Tennis Complex.
