Lebanon, TN – The #19 Cumberlands Women's Tennis team defeated #24 Cumberland University 5-2 in an NAIA top-25 matchup on Thursday afternoon, remaining unbeaten in the conference at 4-0.

The Patriots grabbed the early 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches to secure the point. Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma earned the first win of the day, defeating Valentina Mendez and Madeleine Darud 6-2 at #1 doubles. Karen Kondo partnered with Victoria Zarate and emerged victorious over Juanita Mendez and Emilia Nowak 6-4 at the #2 spot.

Kondo continued her successful day with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Elina Sungatullina at #1 singles, giving UC a 2-0 advantage.

Nagai was dominant in her match against Valentina Mendez to extend the lead to 3-0, not dropping a single game with scores of 6-0, 6-0 at the #2 spot.

Cumberland University cut the deficit to 3-1 with a win at #3 singles.

Liu YuFang secured the overall team win for the Pats with a 7-5, 6-4 straight-set victory over Ame Van Eijk at #4 singles. 

The Phoenix picked up their second win of the match at #5 singles, while Victoria Zarate earned the final win of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lara Zugasti at the #6 spot.

UC is back in action on Saturday April 12th for senior day against #3 Lindsey Wilson. The ceremony is set to begin at noon, with the match to follow at 1 p.m. ET from the UC Tennis Complex.
