Columbia, KY – The ninth-ranked UC Baseball (34-6, 10-0) team run-ruled Lindsey Wilson (5-29, 2-8), 13-2, in the series opener on Saturday afternoon at Egnew Park. The Patriots scored 13 runs on 15 hits, while holding the Blue Raiders to just two runs on seven hits.
Kailen Hamson remains perfect at 8-0 this season after pitching six full innings and recording eight strikeouts. The senior allowed two runs off six hits across the game.
Derick Andiarena led the Patriots offensively, batting 3-for-5 with a home run, double, and four RBI's.
Caden Petrey also had a home run in a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI's.
Max Harper went 3-for-4 with a double.
Cumberlands wasted no time getting on the board in this one, scoring two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. With one out, Charlie Muniz hit an infield single, then scored on an Andiarena two-run home run, his sixth of the season.
The Pats tacked on another run in the top of the second to make it 3-0.
Edwin Martinez led off the inning with a single through the left side. After the next two batters were retired, Martinez stole second and then advanced to third on a throwing error.
Christian Thompson proceeded to draw a two-out walk. Muniz stepped up to the plate a hit an RBI-single through the left side to bring in Martinez from third.
In the top of the third inning, UC extended its lead to 4-0. Harper began the inning with a double to left field before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Following a
Pedro Vasquez walk,
Alec Gonzalez delivered an RBI-sacrifice fly, plating Harper.
The Blue Raiders answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit, 4-2.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Patriot bats came alive once again with four runs on two hits. To lead off the inning, Harper drew a walk, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Vasquez reached first on an error by the shortstop, putting runners on the corners with nobody out. Next at-bat, Gonzalez hit an RBI-single to center field, extending the lead to 5-2. Cumberlands wasn't done as
Trent Prokes did his job with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Vasquez from third. Third baseman,
Caden Petrey, stepped up to the plate and blasted a two-run home run to left center, marking the 50
th of this career and moving to fourth all-time in school history.
UC added three more runs in the top of the sixth, giving them an 11-2 advantage. Muniz singled to lead off the frame, then was pinch ran for by
Zamaurion Hatcher. Hatcher would then score from first on an Andiarena RBI-double. Next at-bat, Harper singled to put runners on the corners with still nobody out. Vasquez followed by reaching on an error to plate another run. Martinez brought in the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Cumberlands would tack on two more runs in the top of the seventh on an Andiarena RBI-single and wild pitch to finalize the game at 13-2.
The Patriots will play Lindsey Wilson in a twin bill on Sunday April 13
th, at noon and 2 p.m. CT.
