McKenzie, TN – The #15 UC Men's Tennis team improved to 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference with a 6-1 win over Bethel (Tenn.) on Thursday afternoon.
UC grabbed an early 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches to secure the point. Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda earned the first win of the day at #1 doubles, defeating Lucca Nesi and Gabriel Perini, 6-2. Sampras Rakotondrainibe and Manuel Fernandez Guede clinched the point with a 6-2 victory over Sho Takenaka / Pedro D' Avila Vecchi at the #2 spot.
Juanchi Alcon extended the UC lead to 2-0, emerging victorious over Outtara Nafiralo Souleymane, 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles.
Luis Marcos battled for a hard-fought three-set win against Gabriel Perini at the #2 spot. After dropping the first game 2-6, Marcos bounced back by winning the next two games 7-5, 7-5, giving the Pats a 3-0 advantage.
Gabriele Solda secured the overall team win for UC after defeating Leonel Caspe in straight-sets 6-3, 7-5 at #3 singles.
The Patriots continued to collect wins to finish the match. Peirluigi Cruypenninck picked up a win over Pedro D' Avila Vecchi at #4 singles, while Sampras Rakotondrainibe earned the final win of the day at the #6 spot against Lucca Nesi 6-2, 6-1.
Bethel collected their only win of the match at #5 singles to finalize the match at 6-1.
Cumberlands wraps up the regular season on Saturday April 19th at Midway. The match is set to begin at noon ET.
