No. 7 Patriots Defeat Campbellsville in Game One of MSC Series

Williamsburg, KY – The No. 7 Patriots earned a hard-fought victory over Campbellsville on Friday afternoon, defeating the Tigers 5-3 to remain unbeaten in the conference at 13-0. Cumberlands out hit the Tigers 10-4, while the pitching staff only allowed three runs on four hits.
 
On the mound, Kailen Hamson (9-0) was strong for the Pats and picked up his ninth win of the season. The left-handed pitcher threw eight innings, allowing just three runs on four hits and striking out eight. He went three up, three down in five innings. JD Price entered in relief in the top of the ninth inning and struck out all three batters he faced to record his seventh save of the save.
 
At the plate, Alec Gonzalez finished the game 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI's. Christian Thompson was impressive in the leadoff spot, batting 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Charlie Muniz went 1-for-2, notching a double, two walks, and an RBI.
 
The Patriots got on the board first, scoring four runs on three hits to take an early lead 4-0 advantage. Thompson led off the inning with a double, before scoring on a Muniz RBI-double. After the first out of the frame was recorded, Max harper drew a walk to put two runners on. Next at-bat, Alec Gonzalez delivered a three-run homer to left center, his seventh of the season.
 
Campbellsville responded in their next at-bat to make the score 4-1.
 
After three scoreless frames, the Tigers tacked on another run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
 
In the bottom of the seventh inning, UC was able to add an insurance run, extending their lead to 5-2. With one out, Caden Petrey singled to left field, followed by a Thompson single to put the first two runners on base. Muniz was then intentionally walked to load the bases full of Pats. After the second out of the inning was recorded, Harper hit an infield single, scoring Petrey from third.
 
Campbellsville answered once again in the top of the eighth, and the score was now 5-3. JD Price came on in the top of the ninth and retired the Tigers in order to secure the win for the Patriots.
 
Cumberlands and Campbellsville will meet again tomorrow for a doubleheader and senior day. The first game will be played at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the senior day ceremony in-between games.
