Bowling Green, KY – The two-seeded UC Men's Tennis team earned a 4-0 shutout victory over seventh-seeded Campbellsville in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Wednesday. Cumberlands moves on to the semifinals tomorrow evening.
The Patriots jumped out to a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches to secure the point. Juanchi Alcon and Apivich Rojpiboonphan earned the first victory of the day, defeating Manuel Pinheiro and Inaki Toledo 6-4 at the #1 spot. Darius Kuster paired with Gabriele Solda to defeat Noah Grossman and Michael Harding 6-3, clinching the point. Manuel Fernandez Guede and Thibaud Vivier also emerged victorious. At #3 doubles, the duo took their match over Alvaro Agullo and Juan Ochoa, 6-1.
Solda continued his successful day with a win at #3 singles to give the Pats a 2-0 lead. The sophomore defeated Juan Ochoa 6-4, 6-1.
At the #4 spot, Pierluigi Cruypenninck earned a 6-2, 6-0 straight-set victory over Michael Harding, giving UC a 3-0 advantage.
Vivier secured the overall team win for the Patriots with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Alvaro Agullo at #6 singles.
Cumberlands will face the winner of #3 seed Cumberland University and sixth-seeded Georgetown in the semifinals tomorrow evening. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
