The Pats Sweep Georgetown to Go Undefeated in MSC Play

Georgetown, KY – For the second time in three years, the Patriots go undefeated in Mid-South Conference play after winning the final two games of the series against Georgetown College. The Pats dominated game one, scoring a season high 17 runs, and completed the sweep with a back-and-forth game two win. Over the last three seasons, the Patriots are 62-1 against Mid-South opponents in the regular season.

Amber Gainer had an amazing day at the plate, going 7-8 with five RBIs and two doubles. Maliyah Wilkins added five hits, three doubles, and three RBIs while Emma McDonald added four hits and three RBIs over the two games as well. Bailey Turnbow and Amber Atkins homered in the first game, Turnbow doing so with the bases loaded to finish with four runs batted in.

In the Circle, Jessica Cord earned the win in game one and recorded her first save in the second game after Lindsey Shope won her 18th game of the season. Cassidy Gentry came in for the final inning of work in game one, facing five batters and closing out the five-inning run rule.

Cord then got another grounder to get out of the bases loaded jam to keep the game scoreless.

Neither team scored in the second, but that would change as the Patriots had the biggest inning of the season in the third. A. Gainer, Oliver and Wilkins loaded the bases before Turnbow launched a grand slam over the left field fence for the first four runs of the game. J. Gainer then reached on an error, followed by another homerun, this time from Atkins. White continued the streak with a single to left field followed by another error that saw Howell reach base. McDonald then delivered a two-RBI double to right center to make it 9-0. Oliver drew her second walk of the inning and scored a batter later off a double from Wilkins. J. Gainer singled to score another run after Oliver ran home on a wild pitch for the 12th run of the inning. A single from Atkins and a walk from White loaded the bases, followed by a walk from Howell for an RBI. A. Gainer then cleared the bases with a three-run triple to cap off the 16-run inning.

Cord came back out for the third and recorded three straight outs after walking the first batter. Wilkins then led off the top of the fourth with a double and advanced to third after a single from Ryann Livingston. Neither runner scored as the Pats left runners on the corners heading into the bottom of the fourth. Cord delivered another scoreless inning to keep UC's lead at 16.

The Patriots added one more run in the fifth as Kaysee Dale got on to start the inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch before Logan Riley drew a walk. Lindsey Shope then earned her first ever hit as a Patriot to load the bases for Cassidy Gentry, who put the ball in play to score Dale from third and put UC ahead by 17. Gentry then came in to pitch the final inning and did not allow a run as the Pats took the five inning 17-0 run-rule victory.

Shope delivered another three-batter inning in the third, but GC did not go away as they hit their second homer of the game in the fourth to go ahead 4-3. The Pats offense took no time to respond as McDonald led off the next inning with a walk and then stole second. Wilkins then earned her second RBI of the game with a double down the left field line to even things back at 4-4.

Georgetown continued to fight, hitting their third homerun of the game in the fifth to go back up one run. She then tagged up to third off a flyout, and then scored from an A. Gainer double over the left fielder's head.
