Bowling Green, KY – The University of the Cumberlands men's golf team posted back-to-back rounds under par en route to a runner-up finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon at Bowling Green Country Club. The Patriots closed out the 54-hole tournament with an 872 (+8), which was 14 shots ahead of third place.
Theo Andersson paced the way for the Patriots earning MSC All-Tournament honors after carding a season best 214 (-2). The sophomore posted a two-under-par, 70, in both the first and second rounds to ascend the leaderboard, before closing out the tournament with a 74 (+2) to place fourth. It marked the first time this season that Andersson carded back-to-back rounds under par's and he finished the tournament sinking 12 birdies. It's the second top-five finish of the season for the Katrineholm, Sweden native. Andersson performance throughout the season garnered the sophomore MSC Second Team All-Conference honors. He averaged 73.5 over 26 rounds of golf of the year, including shooting under par in seven rounds on the year.
Eli Fischer sank four birdies on the final round to close out the round with a 72 (E) and climb three spots to place sixth overall. The sophomore opened the MSC Championships with a 72 (E) before carding a 73 (+1) in the second round. Fischer tallied 13 birdies over the three rounds, including sinking birdies on holes 17 & 18 in both the first and second round of the tournament. His 217 (+1) marks his best score of the season and it also marks his second top-ten finish.
Pedro Morgado placed eighth overall with a score of 218 (+2) for his sixth top-ten finish of the season. The junior opened the championship with a career-best round of 69 (-3). Morgado notched a pair of eagles to go along with a pair of birdies in the round. He followed that up with birdies on two of three holes in the second round, while carding a two-under-par on the back nine to finish with a 69 (-3) to be tied for first. The junior closed out the tournament with ten birdies and two eagles.
Pablo Lopez carded five birdies and a pair of eagles to close out the tournament with a 225 (+9). The sophomore tallied a 75 (+3) in each of the three rounds, including sinking a pair of eagles during the second round. Lopez tallied a 15
th place finish in the individual standings.
Rounding out UC's lineup was
Saran Jantratit, who carded a 230 (+14) to place 25
th overall. Jantratit posted a 75 (+3) in the second round and closed out the tournament with seven birdies. The freshman earned MSC Second Team All-Conference honors after a strong campaign with he averaged 74.9 per round with a pair of top-ten finishes.
Lindsey Wilson won the tournament with an 853 (-11), while the Blue Raiders Johan Bredenkamp earned Medalist honors.
For the Patriots it marks the sixth top-three finish of the season, which included a trio of tournament wins.
