Campbellsville, KY – The #19 Cumberlands Women's Tennis team defeated Campbellsville 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon, extending their winning streak to seven. UC improves to 14-4 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
The Patriots started the day strong, sweeping the doubles matches to gain the early 1-0 advantage.
Karen Kondo and Victoria Zarate earned the first win, defeating Clara Asprella and Oriana Espinoza 6-2 at the #1 spot. Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory over Andrea Ovejero and Juanita Quintero at #2 doubles. Mahiro Hara and Liu YuFang were dominant in their match, taking down Valentina Curli and Andrea Pulido, 6-0.
UC extended its lead to 2-0 as Kondo captured a victory at #1 singles. The senior earned a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win over Oriana Espinoza.
Nagai earned the next singles win for the Pats, taking down Andrea Ovejero 6-0, 6-1 at the #2 spot to give UC a 3-0 lead.
Campbellsville was able to get on the board with a win at #3 singles to cut the deficit to 3-1.
YuFang secured the overall victory for Cumberlands with a win at the #4 spot. YuFang defeated Juanita Quintero 6-3, 6-0.
The Pats won the final two matches of the day to seal the 6-1 victory of the Tigers.
Hara defeated Valentina Curli 6-0, 7-6 at #5 singles, while Zarate earned a straight-set victory over Jimena Palomo (6-3, 6-3) at the #6 spot.
UC is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Lebanon, TN to take on #25 Cumberland University.
