Williamsburg, KY – The UC Athletic Department closed out its school year on a high note with a strong spring season.  An incredible USA Outdoor National Championship leads to the Patriots archery team being named the Brick Oven Team of the Month for May, announced by the athletic department Monday.  The University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department in conjunction with their corporate partner the Brick Oven are presenting the "Brick Oven Team of the Month", which will be awarded to one Patriot team each month.

Cumberlands scored 168 points to pull away from the field to capture the USA Outdoor Collegiate National Championship.  UC tallied 19 podium finishes, including six national champions over the three-day tournament.  It marked the third time in the past four years that Cumberlands captured the outdoor national title, and it was their largest margin of victory claiming the top spot by 24 points.

Joseph West and Kennedy Sumpter both captured their first individual national titles in their respective disciplines.  West went 6-0 to win the men's fixed pins gold medal, while Sumpter, who was seeded eighth posted a 6-0 record, including a 6-0 win over Carlie Ellsworth to capture the national title.  This championship also marked the first time that UC swept the men's fixed pins podium as Jaden Taylor and Jackson Ratajczak joined West.  Brianna Laux (women's recurve), Jared Laux (men's compound) and Lanie Nish (women's compound) also tallied national runner-up finishes.

Cumberlands followed that up with podium finishes in seven of the eight team rounds, highlighted by a trio of national champions.  The trio of Nicolas Mudd, Jonathon Morris, and Tyler Woosley led the Patriots men's barebow team to their first gold medal at outdoor nationals, while Colton Caudill, Ratajczak, and West collected the Patriots first gold medal in men's fixed pins since 2018.  Nish, Marissa Harding, and Danielle Woodie notched gold in the women's compound division.

Caudill and Hannah Summers teamed up for the final gold medal as they captured gold in the mixed fixed pins division.  UC also earned bronze in the mixed compound division.

Cumberlands closed out the year winning both 3D and Outdoor National Championship, while also capturing their seventh straight MSC crown.
