Patriots Earn Pair of Wins to Open 2025 Campaign

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Fort Wayne, IN – The (RV) Cumberlands volleyball team took the court for the first time this season earning a pair of wins at the Onset Tournament Friday at the War Memorial Coliseum.  UC opened the day defeating (RV) Indiana Tech 3-2 (14-25, 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 15-3) before posting a 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-12) sweep over West Virginia Tech. 

Across the two season-opening games, UC combined for 105 kills, 21 service aces, and 12 blocks.  The Patriots had multiple standout performances on the day led by Sara Zampedri who finished with 22 kills and 14 digs.  Kara Gipson added 17 kills, while Brynnley Bryant chipped in 21 kills.  Savanah Jolly notched 83 assists to go along with 24 digs.  Davey Slaughter tallied 52 digs, while Alana Shiery coupled eight blocks and 18 kills on the day.

Patriots Outlast (RV) Warriors in Five Sets, 3-2

The reigning MSC Player of the year Sarah Zampedri picked up right where she left off recording 17 kills to go along with 10 digs, and six aces in the match.  Kara Gipson chipped in 12 kills, while Alana Shiery tallied a career-high eight kills and four blocks.  Savanah Jolly earned a double-double with 38 assists and 18 digs as Davey Slaughter posted a career-high 35 digs.  Newcomer Autiana Wilson added 14 digs for the Patriots.

UC dropped the first set 25-14 to Indiana Tech, however, rallied in the second set with 13 kills and a .192 hitting percentage to take it 25-23 and even the score at 1-1.  Cumberlands continued their strong play in the third set converting at .250 with 14 kills taking the set 25-20 and the 2-1 advantage.  The Warriors battled back taking the fourth set 20-25 to force a fifth set.  UC took control of the fifth taking a commanding lead before Zampedri notched a kill to close out the set 15-3 and the match 3-2.

Cumberlands Dominates Bears in 3-0 Sweep

Sophomore Brynnley Bryant anchored UC with 17 kills, while Shiery duplicated her success surpassing her career-high with 10 kills and four blocks.  Jolly dished out a career-high 45 assists as Slaughter tallied 17 digs to lead the Pats defensive effort.  Zampedri collected 14 digs along with five kills.  Kendall Yarber recorded three aces on the night.

The matched started with both teams trading points early leading to score to be tied four times.  From that point Cumberlands took control of the set notching 16 kills and .448 hitting percentage to take the first set 25-12.  UC continued their momentum in the second set as the notched a .481 hitting percentage and recorded 17 kills taking the set 25-10 and extending their lead to 2-0.  The Patriots closed out the match after winning the third set 25-12 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Cumberlands will continue play at the Onset Tournament, taking on University of Saint Francis (IN) at 1:15 p.m. and Bethel (IN) at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday August 23rd
