Lima, OH – The University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team capped off the UNOH Labor Day Tournament in style, earning a 2–0 victory over #24 Governors State on Monday afternoon. Two first-half goals and a resilient defensive effort secured the Patriots their second win of the young season. 

The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Hugo Champalloux notched his first goal of the season past a diving GSU goalkeeper to give UC the early lead. Less than two minutes later, Patrick Ostergreen set up Samuel Dolobaipu deep in the box for his second goal of the year, doubling the advantage to 2–0. 

Cumberlands nearly stretched the margin before halftime as Champalloux rattled the post and Fernandez forced a strong save from Jaguars keeper, but the score held. 

Governors State pressed hard in the second half, firing seven shots and striking the crossbar in the 79th minute. Still, the Patriots' back line and goalkeeper Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo stood firm to preserve the clean sheet. Izquierdo walked away with 6 saves and a second clean sheet of the season.  

UC finished the match with 15 shots, including eight on frame, while limiting the Jaguars to just one shot on goal across 90 minutes. 

The Patriots leave Lima with a statement win over a nationally ranked opponent, gaining momentum heading into their match against Life University on September 6 in Marietta, GA.
