Barbourville, KY – The No. 20 Cumberlands Volleyball team kept its perfect season alive with another dominant performance, sweeping Union Commonwealth 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-5) Saturday afternoon. The victory extends UC's winning streak to 13 matches and marks their tenth sweep of the year.
Cumberlands was able to spread the offense across multiple hitters, led by Sara Zampedri, who notched a match-high 15 kills on a .414 hitting percentage to go along with 10 digs. Brynnley Bryant added 11 kills and two aces, while Jayce Braden tallied five kills on an efficient .714 clip. Setter Savanah Jolly guided the attack with 30 assists and chipped in four kills and eight digs, while Davey Slaughter anchored the back row with a team-best 11 digs.
The Patriots set the tone early in the first set, using a 7-2 run to grab control before closing out the frame 25-16. In the second, Union hung close midway through, but UC responded with four straight points, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Bryant and Zampedri, to create separation and secure the 25-17 win.
The third set was all Cumberlands as the Patriots raced out to a double-digit lead behind strong serving and efficient attacking, outscoring the Bulldogs 15-2 down the stretch to seal the sweep with a 25-5 victory.
As a team, Cumberlands hit .365 with 41 kills, 13 aces, and 41 digs, while limiting Union Commonwealth to just 20 kills on .051 hitting for the match.
The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday night when they face Campbellsville on the road in the conference opener. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
