#14 Patriots Earn 10th Straight Sweep with Road Win at Midway

Midway, KY – The #14 Patriots continued their dominant start to the season, rolling past Midway 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-12) Thursday evening. The victory improves the Patriots to 15-0 on the year and marks their 10th consecutive sweep.

UC's offense was sharp from the start, hitting .325 as a team with 34 kills across the three sets. Sara Zampedri paced the attack with 10 kills on a .625 hitting percentage, while Alana Shiery added five kills and a team-high three blocks. Brynnley Bryant chipped in six kills and three aces, and setter Savanah Jolly dished out 28 assists to go along with four service aces and six digs.

Defensively, the Patriots limited Midway to just .068 hitting, forcing 15 errors on 73 swings. Davey Slaughter anchored the back row with 12 digs, while the block proved effective with six team stuffs.

In the opening set, the teams traded points early before Zampedri sparked a 6-1 run with a pair of kills to give UC breathing room at 17-12. Midway closed within three at 20-17, but Bryant responded with back-to-back kills and the Patriots closed out the set 25-19.

Set two saw Cumberlands jump out quickly as Jolly served a 5-0 run highlighted by aces from both her and Bryant. Zampedri and Shiery combined for seven kills in the frame, and the Patriots' .393 hitting clip proved too much as UC pulled away for a 25-16 victory.

The third set was all Patriots as they stormed ahead 10-4 behind strong serving from Slaughter and an efficient offense that tallied seven kills on just 21 swings. Gipson added a pair of key points in the middle, while Zampedri's final kill sealed the 25-12 win and the sweep.

The #14 Patriots will return home for a marquee matchup on Tuesday, September 23, when they host (RV) Lindsey Wilson inside the UC Volleyball Gym.
