Box Score LAKELAND, Fl. – The University of the Cumberlands football team jumped out to a 20-point lead and held strong down the stretch to secure a 27-14 road win over Warner University on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Patriots improve to 3-1 on the season and move to 2-0 all-time against the Royals.
Cumberlands set the tone early with a strong first quarter, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes. On the opening possession of the game, wide receiver
Michael Petty took a handoff and broke loose for a 16-yard touchdown run to put UC on the board. Later in the quarter, quarterback
Drew Gregg capped off a sustained drive by finding
Cade Lamb in the end zone, giving the Patriots a 13-0 advantage at the end of the first.
Gregg continued his night in the second quarter, this time connecting with
Adam Foulk, who found himself wide open behind the Royals defense. The touchdown extended Cumberlands lead to 20-0, where it would stand heading into the halftime break.
Defensively, the Patriots were sharp throughout the first half, keeping Warner off the scoreboard and applying pressure across the field. The unit stood tall in key moments, forcing multiple punts and denying the Royals any rhythm or scoring chances through the opening two quarters.
Warner managed to find some success after halftime, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to cut the UC lead to 20-14. But the Patriots' offense answered in the fourth. Running back
Juan Bullard Jr. delivered the dagger late in the game, taking a handoff and breaking multiple tackles en route to a powerful 30-plus yard touchdown run to seal the 27-14 win.
The Patriots return to action next week as they start MSC play on the road against #13 Campbellsville.
