#14 Patriots Extend Streak with Sweep over Georgetown

Georgetown, KY – The Cumberlands Volleyball team continued its remarkable start to the season, overpowering Georgetown in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-19) Tuesday night at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The win pushes the 14th-ranked Patriots to 17-0 overall and 3-0 in Mid-South Conference play, while notching their 12th consecutive sweep. The Tigers fall to 2-12 and 0-4 in league action.

UC's attack was dominant throughout, hitting .463 as a team with 47 kills against just nine errors. Sara Zampedri led the way with 13 kills on .591 hitting and added 10 digs for a double-double. Brynnley Bryant followed with 10 kills on a .421 clip, while Alana Shiery added eight kills and a pair of blocks. Setter Savanah Jolly orchestrated the offense with 30 assists and contributed seven kills of her own on a .500 hitting percentage.

Defensively, the Patriots notched 46 digs and four team blocks while limiting Georgetown to just .054 hitting on the night. Davey Slaughter anchored the back row with 10 digs, while Elaina Fischer chipped in three digs and a block assist.

Cumberlands came out firing in the opening set, turning a 5-4 edge into a commanding 12-6 lead after a pair of Zampedri kills and an ace from Wilson. The Patriots never looked back, hitting .650 with 14 kills in the frame. Bryant took control late, scoring three of the final five points to lock down the 25-13 win.

In the second set, UC dominated from start to finish. A quick 6-1 start forced an early Georgetown timeout, but the Patriots continued to pile on behind Jolly's quick attack and Shiery's presence at the net. Back-to-back kills from Zampedri extended the advantage to 18-8, and UC closed the set on a 7-2 run, capped by a Bryant swing for the 25-10 victory.

The third set saw Georgetown put up its strongest fight, keeping it close at 12-11. The Patriots regrouped quickly, with Shiery and Fischer combining for a block and Jolly dropping in a kill to spark a 6-2 run. Georgetown trimmed the margin to 20-18, but UC's balance proved too much as Zampedri delivered back-to-back kills before Bryant sealed the match with a kill down the line for the 25-19 win.

The Pats will look to continue their undefeated season when they travel to face (RV) Cumberland University on Saturday October 4th.
