Patriots Break Single Game Rebounding Record as UC Extend Win Streak to 9

Williamsburg, KY – The #12 Cumberlands women's basketball team broke a 43-year record grabbing 69 rebounds as the Patriots earned the 91-44 win, Saturday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court.  With the win, UC improves to 15-1 ahead of conference play.

The 69 rebounds broke the single game record set in 1982-83 against Clinch Valley College.  Joy Kendrick lead the way for UC with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Darcie Anderson added 11 points, five assists, and four steals.  Aden Clark added 16 points off the bench, as Alexia Wilson notched a career-high 10points.  Mackenzie Babb grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with 10 points for her first double-double, while Amy Thompson chipped in 10 boards and 8 points.

Cumberlands scored the first 21 points of the game, with six different Patriots getting into the scoring column.  Burke, Kendrick, Anderson and Thompson with four points a piece as part of the run making it 21-0 with 2:41 remaining.  UC extended their lead as Clark connected with Anderson from long range to make it 24-4 after the opening quarter.

Kendrick converted seven of the Patriots first nine points in the second period giving UC a 31-4 advantage, four minutes in.  Babb added a putback before Anderson notched a steal and connected with Clark in transition to make it 40-6 with 3:40 left.  Late in the quarter, Wilson notched a putback as Cumberlands took the 44-12 lead into the break.

The Patriots utilized a 10-2 run, that included Kendrick tallying six points, three rebounds, and an assist to open the third quarter.  Wilson added four points, while Emily Naranjo hit a jumper with 2:46 remaining making it 63-20.  The two teams traded baskets over the final few minutes as UC extended their lead to 67-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

UC went on a 13-2 run early in the fourth quarter with four points from Babb giving UC an 82-31 advantage.  The two teams traded baskets over the final four minutes for the 91-44 final.

Cumberlands returns to the court Thursday, January 8th, when they open MSC play against #1 Bethel.  Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
