Williamsburg, KY – Strong performances on the week leads to guards Joy Kendrick and Andrew McConnell being named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Joy Kendrick earned athlete of the week honors after terrific play in UC's two wins. The Albany, GA native averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game on the week. Kendrick opened the week with a well-rounded stat line of 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals as Cumberlands defeated Union. She followed that up with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists as UC defeated Miami Hamilton. Kendrick contributions helped UC break the single game rebounding record. On the week, Kendrick hit 63.0% from the field and 42.9% from behind-the-arc.
Andrew McConnell earned athlete of the week honors after stellar play in the Patriots two wins on the week. The senior averaged 19.0 ppg, 5.0 rebounds per game, and 2.0 steals per game. McConnell opened the week with 21 points, five rebounds, and two assists in just 16 minutes of action against Milligan. He went 6-8 from the field and 4-6 from behind-the-arc to help set the tone. The senior followed that up with 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists as Cumberlands rallied to take down Dalton State. On the week, McConnell converted 12-12 from the charity stripe, while converting at 43.5% from the field.
