Fredricks and Duke Named Patriots “Brick Oven” December Athletes of the Month

Williamsburg, KY – Playing a pivotal role in their team's success, forward Zaram Fredricks and guard Kyle Duke have been selected as the December Athletes of the Month presented by The Brick Oven, the athletic department announced Monday. The University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department in conjunction with their corporate partner, The Brick Oven, are presenting the "The Brick Oven Athletes of the Month", which will be awarded to the top two student-athletes each month.
 
Zaram Fredricks earned athlete of the month honors after an incredible month.  The senior averaged 15.0 rebounds per game to go along 9.8 ppg, 12 blocks, and a pair of double-doubles.  She began the month with a 12 point, 16 rebound performance in the win over Washington Adventist.  The Lagos, Nigeria native followed that up with 14 rebounds as UC earned the road win over Shawnee State.  Fredricks biggest performance came against Tennessee Wesleyan where she went off for a career-high 20 points, 25 rebounds, and three blocks.  The 25 rebounds tied the program's single game record, which was set in 1983.  She capped off the month with nine points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks against Union.  Fredricks is ranked in the top-10 of the NAIA in both rebounds and blocks.
 
Kyle Duke earned athlete of the month honors after an incredible start to his Patriot career.  Duke averaged 19.8 ppg to go along with 3.7 rpg, 17 assists, and five steals over five games.  He opened the month with 22 points, three assists, and three rebounds as UC earned the road win over IU Southeast.  He notched 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win over Midway, before netting 24 points on 58.3% shooting to help UC take down Rio Grande.  Duke netted a season-best 32 points and six rebounds against UPike before closing out the  month with 17 points, going 6-7 from the field, and five assists against Union.
