#3 Patriots Utilize Balanced Attack in Win over Shorter

Williamsburg, KY – The third-ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team had eight different players net goals, including six scoring multiple goals in the 22-2 win over Shorter, Tuesday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 2-0 on the season.

Anna Lobbezoo notched five goals, three assists, and eight points in the win, while Ashlee Baker chipped in four goals and four assists.  Emma Rittman notched five goals to go along with nine draw controls, while Tess Lisy tallied two goals and an assist.  Mikayla Kimsey tallied four saves as Koral Hadac finished with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. 

The reigning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week Lenora DeVries got the scoring started in the first minute, while Lisy added a goal and an assist to make it 3-0 with 11:48 remaining.  After UC went on a 3-1 run, Christina Carter put a well-placed shot into the cage extending the lead to 7-1. 

The Patriots defense held Shorter scoreless over the final three quarters of play and limited the Hawks to 8-26 on clears in the contest.  Lobbezoo netted two of the first three Cumberlands goals in the second quarter, while DeVries tallied a goal and an assists extending the lead to 13-2 at halftime.

Lobbezoo and Rittman combined for five of UC's first six goals of the third quarter with Audrey Donaldson netting the other to give Cumberlands a 19-2 edge.  Kimsey added a save in the third period, while the Patriots controlled the possession for majority of the fourth quarter.  Kaitlyn Friel dished out an assist in the final minutes of the game as the Patriots earned the 22-2 final.

Cumberlands returns to the field Friday, February 20th, when they travel to the Sunshine State to face #10 Ave Maria.  First draw is set for 12 p.m. with live stream available here.
