#6 Cumberlands Completes Sweep of Siena Heights

Williamsburg, KY – The #6 Patriots completed the sweep of Siena Heights with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium. UC took game one 11-1 before securing a 12-2 run-rule victory in game two to improve to 9-0 on the season.

#6 Cumberlands Takes Game One, 11-1

The Patriots used a 17-hit performance and strong pitching to earn an 11-1 victory in the opener. Nolan Wilson picked up the win, improving to 2-0 after allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out six over four innings. Justin Cortez was solid in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out three.

Johnboy Rittenhouse led the offense, going 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Caden Petrey finished 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI, while Zamaurion Hatcher added three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. Derick Andiarena chipped in two hits in the win.

Siena Heights struck first in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of a Patriot error to grab a 1-0 lead.

Cumberlands answered in the fourth inning as Rittenhouse launched a solo home run to right-center field to tie the game. One batter later, Petrey connected for a solo shot to left-center to give UC a 2-1 advantage.

The Patriots added three runs in the fifth inning. Rittenhouse delivered an RBI single, Hatcher followed with an RBI base hit, and Pedro Vasquez brought home another run to extend the lead to 5-1.

UC broke the game open in the sixth with six runs on seven hits. Andiarena drove in a run on a groundout before Petrey added an RBI single. Hatcher ripped a two-run double down the left-field line, Vasquez followed with an RBI single, and Sebastian De La Cruz capped the inning with an RBI double to seal the 11-1 win.

Patriots Secure Run-Rule Victory, 12-2

Cumberlands carried the momentum into game two, finishing the sweep with a 12-2 run-rule victory. Stuart Tharle earned the win on the mound, improving to 2-0 after throwing five scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out five. Jackson Mayo worked the sixth inning, and JD Price closed out the seventh.

Offensively, the long ball once again fueled the Patriots. Zamaurion Hatcher opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Johnboy Rittenhouse added a solo shot in the third to make it 4-0.

UC continued to build the lead in the fourth as Sebastian De La Cruz delivered an RBI double and Dariel Castillo added an RBI double to stretch the advantage to 6-0.

Siena Heights plated two unearned runs in the sixth inning, but the Patriots answered immediately in the bottom half. Ronald Almanzar crushed a two-run home run to center field as part of a six-run frame. Hatcher added an RBI triple later in the inning to push the lead to 12-2 and secure the run-rule victory.

Cumberlands finished with 29 hits across the two games.

The Patriots will return to action on February 17th as they head to Athens, TN to take on #5 Tennessee Wesleyan.
