#6 Patriots Fall to Indiana Tech in Series Finale

Williamsburg, KY – The #6 Patriots fell in the series finale against Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium, dropping an 11-9 decision as UC moved to 10-3 on the season.

Mason Howard was charged with the loss in relief after Indiana Tech used a three-run seventh inning to regain control. Stuart Tharle started the contest and allowed three runs over three innings, while Jack Scrofano and Yannis Rembert also saw action on the mound.

Offensively, Ronald Almanzar had a monster afternoon at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI while scoring four runs. Caden Petrey added a home run and three RBI, while Derick Andiarena finished 2-for-5 with a triple and a homer as the Patriots totaled 11 hits in the loss.

Cumberlands struck first in the opening inning when Almanzar launched a solo home run to left-center field to give UC a 1-0 lead.

Indiana Tech answered with three runs in the second inning and added another in the fourth to take a 4-2 advantage. The Patriots chipped away in the second on an RBI groundout by Pedro Vasquez and tied the game in the fifth when Almanzar connected for a two-run homer to make it 4-4.

The Warriors regained the lead in the sixth with an RBI single before breaking things open in the seventh. Indiana Tech plated three runs on three hits to extend the lead to 8-4.

Cumberlands responded in the bottom half of the inning as Andiarena crushed a solo home run and the Patriots capitalized on a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 8-6.

Indiana Tech added three insurance runs in the ninth, highlighted by a two-run home run, to push the lead to 11-6.

The Patriots refused to go quietly. In the bottom of the ninth, Almanzar singled and Petrey followed with a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 11-9 and bring the tying run to the plate. UC continued to pressure with another base runner, but Indiana Tech recorded the final out to secure the victory.

Cumberlands will look to bounce back Tuesday, February 24th, when they host (RV) IU Southeast at Doyle Buhl Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
