Fredricks Breaks Single Game Blocks Records as UC Earns Senior Day Victory

Williamsburg, KY  – Zaram Fredricks notched a program-best nine blocks, while Joy Kendrick netted a game-high 21 points as #21 Cumberlands women's basketball earns the senior day win over #13 Lindsey Wilson 63-54 Saturday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court.  With the win, UC improves to 18-10 overall and 3-9 in conference play, while the Blue Raiders move to 21-7 and 7-5 in MSC play. 

Fredricks broke the previous block record of six, which she set earlier this season to go along with eight rebounds and six points.  Kendrick went 7-12 from the field with eight rebounds and four assists.  Aden Clark netted 14 points, while Lakin Burke tallied seven points and 10 rebounds. 

Fredricks set the tone early with back-to-back baskets giving UC the 4-0 lead.  The Patriots utilized a stellar defensive effort as Kendrick found Clark for three to make it 9-4 with 4:18 remaining.  Clark and Burke added consecutive jumpers as the Pats took a 13-9 lead after the first quarter.

Burke opened the second quarter with a layup, which was followed by a Clark three-pointer extending UC's lead to 18-9.  Kendrick added four straight points as part of a 6-2 run to give the Patriots a 24-13 advantage with 5:50 remaining.  Cumberlands utilized a 7-1 run capped off by a three-point play from Mackenzie Babb to extend their lead to 31-17. Amy Thompson and Kendrick each added a layup in the closing minute of the half giving the Pats a 35-19 advantage at the break.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 6-2 run in the third quarter before Fredricks found Clark on the wing for a three to make it 41-25 with 6:07 remaining.  Cumberlands added three-pointers from Clark and Kendrick, while Fredricks notched three blocks in the quarter giving UC a 51-32 lead heading into the fourth period.

The Blue Raiders opened the fourth quarter on a 19-4 run, before Peyton Mounce hit a pull-up jumper to give Cumberlands a 57-51 lead with 1:57 left.  Down the stretch UC went 6-6 from the charity stripe, while Fredricks forced a pivotal steal to secure the 63-54 win.

The Patriots now sets their sights on the MSC Tournament where they will face third-seed Lindsey Wilson in a rematch.  Tip-off is set for Friday, February 27 at 8:30 p.m.
