Bowling Green, KY – On the heels of breaking the program record for blocks in a game, senior forward
Zaram Fredricks has been named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. It marks the fifth time this season that the Lagos, Nigeria native has earned this distinction this year.
Over Cumberlands two games, Fredricks tallied 26 rebounds, 12 blocks and 16 points. She opened the week with 18 rebounds, three blocks, and ten points against fifth-ranked Campbellsville. It was Fredricks' eighth double-double of the season and it was her ninth game of at least 15 rebounds on the season.
The senior followed that up with a career-high and program record nine blocks to go along with eight points as UC knocked off #13 Lindsey Wilson. The nine blocks surpassed the previous record of six, which she set earlier this season. Fredricks held the Blue Raiders leading scorer Meadow Tisdale to just two points in the game and notched a steal in the closing minute of the game to secure the win.
Fredricks has made a program record 71 blocks on the season, while her 324 rebounds on the year ranks third in program history. She is also fifth in program history with 766 rebounds and holds the program record with 181 career blocks.
The Patriots now sets their sights on the MSC Tournament where they will face third-seed Lindsey Wilson in a rematch. Tip-off is set for Friday, February 27 at 8:30 p.m.
