Bowling Green, KY – The University of the Cumberlands Women's Bowling team picked up a victory in its lone match on day one of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday, defeating No. 5 seed Midway University 2-0 in bracket play.
The Mid-South Conference implemented the Mega Match format this year to mirror the NAIA National Championships. The first set consists of the total number of pins from five bowlers in a traditional game. Set two is total pinfall in five Baker team games, and the third set, if necessary, is a best-of-seven Baker match.
The Patriots controlled the match from the start, taking set one by a score of 887-827 before closing out the victory with an 891-855 win in the second set.
With the win, Cumberlands advances to the quarterfinals and will face top-seeded University of Pikeville tomorrow morning. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. CT.
