Fredricks Breaks Single Season Blocks Record

Georgetown, KY – With 3:06 remaining in the third quarter Zaram Fredricks recorded her 56th block on the season to break a 28-year-old school record as the #15 Patriots fell to (RV) Georgetown 72-57 Saturday afternoon. 

Joy Kendrick led the way for UC with 21 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Lakin Burke added nine points and seven rebounds.  Fredricks also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points in the game.

The Patriots won the opening tip and on the first possession Amy Thompson connected with Joy Kendrick for a jumper to put UC in front 2-0. Kendrick went on to add seven straight points for Cumberlands as the score was even 9-9 with 6:08 remaining.  Georgetown went on a 10-0 run, that spanned 3:25, before Aden Clark drained a three-pointer cutting the deficit to 14-9 with 2:10 left.  The Tigers took a 21-16 lead after the first quarter.

The two teams traded baskets to open the second quarter before Kendrick found Clark cutting for a layup to bring UC within three at 23-20.  Four straight points from Kendrick give Cumberlands the lead 24-23 midway through the quarter.  Lakin Burke added five straight UC points, before the Patriots notched back-to-back jumpers from Thompson and Kendrick to take a 33-31 lead at halftime. 

The Tigers jump out to a 6-3 run in the third quarter before Jaydyn Carrico found Zaram Fredricks on the block as UC took a 38-37 lead with 6:01 remaining. The two teams traded baskets until Georgetown went on a 12-4 run to close out the quarter taking a 52-44 advantage. 

Georgetown opened the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run, before Zaram Fredricks grabbed an offensive board and putback cutting the deficit to 62-50.  Peyton Mounce and Thompson added baskets in the final minute as Georgetown earned the 72-57 win.
 
Cumberlands returns to the court, February 12th, when they travel to face (RV) Cumberland.  Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
