Women Open Outdoor Season at Home

WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The University of the Cumberlands women's track & field team opened the outdoor season Saturday at the Cumberlands Early Spring Meey, hosting the first meet of the spring at the Cumberlands track. The Patriots recorded multiple event victories and several strong finishes across the track and field events.
 
Cumberlands was led by several event champions on the day. Aliah Laster captured the 100-meter hurdles title with a winning time of 16.04, while Kaielle Gray cleared 1.55 meters to win the high jump. Laster also added a victory in the pole vault, clearing 2.90 meters.
 
In the throws, Katie Slade delivered a strong performance with a first-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.06 meters. Slade also competed in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 10.04 meters.
 
The Patriots also saw strong performances from the sprint group. Allie Bryson placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.61 and later finished third in the 200 meters in 26.47. Lennon Little added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 26.51, while A'yana Gray finished seventh in 27.54 and Abigail McKamey crossed in 27.97.
 
In the 400 meters, McKamey placed sixth in 1:04.44 while Gray ran 1:07.43.
 
Cumberlands also earned a runner-up finish in the 4x100-meter relay as the Patriot quartet crossed the line in 50.04.
 
The middle-distance squad saw Kayleigh Burkhead finish fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:34.68.
 
In the field events, Delaney Deaton led the throws group with a second-place finish in the hammer throw at 40.85 meters. Taylor Lunsford added a fifth-place throw of 29.99 meters while Kelsie Peavler placed seventh at 27.45 meters.
 
Deaton also placed third in the discus throw with a mark of 34.55 meters while Peavler added a fourth-place finish with a throw of 32.13 meters.
 
In the horizontal jumps, Kaielle Gray placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.61 meters while Analei Sarakatsannis finished eighth with a leap of 4.53 meters.
 
The Patriots also saw Jaci Woods place seventh in the shot put with a mark of 9.69 meters and compete in the high jump with a clearance of 1.35 meters.
 
UC will be back next week as they are set to compete at Ole Miss.
