Miller and Preciado-Meza Advance as Patriots Sit 12th After Day One of NAIA Championships

Wichita, Kan. – The #12 University of the Cumberlands women's wrestling team sits in 12th place with 33 points after the first day of competition at the 2026 NAIA Women's Wrestling National Championship Friday at Heartland Credit Union Arena. The Patriots had two wrestlers advance into the placing rounds heading into the final day of competition. 

Micah Fisher-Miller and Saiheron Preciado-Meza are both in position to garner All-American honors and will wrestle in the placing matches on Saturday. 

Three time qualifier Miller posted a 3-1 record on the day in the 160-pound bracket. After falling in the championship round of 16, Fisher-Miller battled back through the consolation bracket with three falls. She opened with a fall over #10 Nicole Olson (Grand View) at the 1:08 mark before pinning #20 Berlyn Davis (Westcliff) in just 57 seconds. Fisher-Miller followed with another fall, defeating #2 Allyssa Johnson (Central Methodist) at the 4:39 mark to advance to the placing rounds for the second time in her career. 

#3 Preciado-Meza also secured All-American honors in the 180-pound class after going 2-1 on the day. She opened the tournament with a 3-1 decision over #12 Katelyn Lewis (Lindsey Wilson) before dropping her quarterfinal match to #1 Reka Busa (Life). Preciado-Meza responded with an 11-0 tech fall over #15 Margaret Jordan (Baker) in the consolation bracket to move into the placing matches. 

Several other Patriots picked up victories throughout the opening day of the championship. 

At 124 pounds, Kaitlin Castro opened her tournament with a fall over #6 Maya Davis (Grand View) at the 1:34 mark. 

Mary Jane Porter recorded a victory in the 131-pound bracket with a 13-2 tech fall over #18 Jill High (York) in the consolation bracket. 

In the 138-pound class, #15 Ruth Jimenez earned a pair of wins in the consolation bracket with decisions over #19 Teani Medeiros-Maielua (William Woods) and #13 Brielle Bibla (Lindsey Wilson). 

#11 Genesis Gilmore secured a 6-4 decision over #19 Naida Abdijanovic (William Penn) in the 145-pound bracket. 

#13 Sierra Mefford also recorded two wins in the consolation bracket at 160 pounds, earning decisions over #16 Hailee Crosland (Baker) and #17 Ja'Nya Banks (Midland). 

#8 Naomi Duenas opened her tournament with a fall over #20 Kylee Lindsley (Ottawa) at the 2:40 mark in the 207-pound class. 

The NAIA Women's Wrestling National Championship will continue Saturday, March 14.
