Rome, GA – The 13th-ranked Cumberlands Patriots women's tennis secured a 4-2 victory over No. 18 Dillard Bleu Devils women's tennis Saturday morning at the Downtown Tennis Center.
Dillard opened the match by claiming the doubles point, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The Patriots' lone doubles win came at the top spot as YuFang Liu and Victoria Zarate earned a 6-3 victory over Farah Ibrahim and Yiran Chen.
Cumberlands responded in singles play, capturing four courts to secure the comeback win. At No. 1 singles, Marina Nagai delivered a strong performance with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-3 win over Weichiao Chen. The Patriots continued to build momentum as Mahiro Hara dominated her match at No. 4 singles, defeating Yiran Chen 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Zarate battled through a tight contest, edging Nanami Fukushima in straight sets 7-6 (8-5), 7-5 to give the Patriots another point.
Cumberlands sealed the victory at No. 5 singles where Rion Yanuma earned a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win against Ibrahim.
The Patriots are back on the court on Monday, March 16, where they will travel to No. 2 Lindsey Wilson for a ranked conference matchup. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
