#6 Patriots Score Season-High 24 Runs in Dominant Victory Over Union

Williamsburg, KY – The #6 Patriots (23-5) erupted for a season-high 24 runs on 21 hits in a dominant 24-6 victory over Union Commonwealth (4-21) on Tuesday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium.

Cumberlands scored 24 runs on 21 hits while striking out nine Union Commonwealth batters and limiting the visitors to just six hits.

Brayden Stewart earned the win on the mound, improving to 3-0 on the season after allowing one run over the opening inning. The Patriots used a deep pitching staff, with seven pitchers combining for nine strikeouts in the victory.

At the plate, Zamaurion Hatcher led the offensive explosion, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and five runs scored. Derick Andiarena added a 4-for-5 performance with a home run and three RBI, while Pedro Vasquez drove in five runs.

Union Commonwealth struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Patriots answered immediately.

Cumberlands exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by RBI hits from Johnboy Rittenhouse, Hatcher, and Vasquez to take a 5-1 lead.

After Union Commonwealth tied the game at 5-4 in the second inning, the Patriots responded with a solo home run from Andiarena and continued to build momentum.

UC broke the game open in the second and third innings, scoring seven runs in the second and six more in the third to extend the lead to 18-4. Clay Shelton delivered a three-run home run in the second inning, and then in the fifth inning, Cayden Smithers added a three-run home run to right field to continue the offensive onslaught.

The Patriots continued to add on throughout the game, scoring in five of six innings, including a three-run fifth and two more runs in the sixth to push the lead to 24-6.

Cumberlands finished the game with 21 hits and 24 RBI in one of its most complete offensive performances of the season.

The Patriots will return to action Friday March 27th as they continue Mid-South Conference play against Lindsey Wilson. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
